Skin tags are small overgrowths of skin that commonly appear in areas with skin or clothing friction, such as the underarms, neck, groin, or beneath the breasts. However, they can also occur anywhere on the body, including delicate areas like the eyelids. Composed of skin fibers, nerve cells, and fat cells, skin tags resemble small tissue flaps protruding from the skin. They are generally asymptomatic and benign.
For smaller skin tags, cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen treatment) is a common option. Our specialists “freeze” the skin tags, causing them to fall off naturally over time. Stubborn skin tags may require repeat cryotherapy sessions. Another popular method is scissor removal, where sterile surgical scissors are used to clip skin tags at the base. For larger skin tags, a numbing agent may be applied to minimize discomfort during removal. Skin tags can sometimes grow back, so retreatment may be necessary. Unfortunately, skin tag removal is not covered by insurance.
